The canopy of Capitol Hill is made up a mixture of trees as part of a Coastal Western Hemlock forest.
The largest trees and the main canopy of the forest includes;
- Western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla)
- Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii)
- Western red cedar (Thuja plicata)
- Big leaf maple (Acer macrophyllum)
- Red alder (Alnus rubra)
Smaller trees also grow under the tall canopy of the larger trees. These include;
- Vine maple (Acer circinatum)
- English holly (Ilex aquifolium)
- Cherry laurel (Prunus laurocerasus)
- European mountain ash (Sorbus aucuparia)
- Common hazelnut (Corylus avellana)
In addition to the already established trees, the Treekeepers have planted the following native species to help ensure the forest is both diverse and best adapted to the changing climate. These include
- Grand fir (Abies grandis)
- Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis)
