Invasive Plants

Managing invasive plants is a major part of our work keeping Capitol Hill a strong thriving forest.

Within the forest itself the following invasive plants can be found:

  • English Ivy (Hedera helix)
  • English Holly (Ilex aquifolium)
  • Cherry Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus)
  • Small Balsam (Impatiens parviflora)
  • Policeman’s Helmet/Himalayan Balsam (Impatiens glandulifera)
  • Spurge Laurel (Daphne laureola)
  • Common Periwinkle (Vinca minor)
  • Yellow Archangel (Lamium galeobdolon)

Himalayan blackberry and Scotch broom also exist on the edges of the forest, although they don’t move in as the area is too shaded for them.

To learn more about these plants check out the Invasive Species Council of Metro Vancouver.
