Past Events

Ivy Pull – May 11, 2024

Our next event will be May 11th at 930a-11am and once again we are tackling the ivy.

Meet at the north end of Grosevenor Ave above the park on Capitol Hill with clippers in hand and dressed for the weather.  If you do not have clippers, there should be extras that you can borrow.

We thank everyone who in the past has helped out as well as those who have supported us by being members and are not able to help out.

2024 Annual General Meeting – April 10 2024

Our annual general meeting is scheduled for Apr 10th at 600p at McGill Public Library in the meeting room.  We would love everyone to join us, both members and non members so that we can give you a greater understanding as to what our mission is and what we have accomplished so far..

We will have Mark Greenwood from the City of Burnaby speaking on Urban ForesManagement from 600-700p and then a quick meeting afterwards.

In light of the wildfires that are now the norm, it is even more important than ever that we take care of these forests. It takes a community and it is all of our responsibility.

Nature Kids Walk – April 2, 2024

Erica Mulder hosted a walk through the forest with Nature Kids BC (https://naturekidsbc.ca/) talking about invasive and native plants throughout the area.

Ivy Removal – February 25, 2024

Our first event of this new year! Come join us to pull out some ivy to help protect our trees and open up sunlight for native plants.

Meet at the end of N Grosvenor Ave at Harbourview Park at 9:30am. We will be working until 11am. Please dress warmly, wear good shoes and if you can bring pruning shears and gloves.

Tree Planting – November 25 2023

We did it! Planted 40 trees, including western hemlock, red cedar, sitka spruce, pine and douglas fir. It took about 9 of us just over an hour. Thank you to all who came out. It was a great activity!
Thanks also to Mark from The City of Burnaby who came along to help as well and provided the trees!

Annual General Meeting – July 12 2023

Jul 12th, 2023, McGill Public Library meeting room, 630p-745p

We welcome all and encourage you to attend.  We are looking for ideas and suggestions  as to other ways that we, as a society, can look at to keep our forest sustainable, whether it be building bat boxes, planting non invasive plants etc. etc.   We are also looking for ideas as to how to raise some money to support these ideas.  i.e. local grants, sponsorships, etc.

Small Balsam Pull – June 11, 2023

We pulled small balsam (Impatiens parviflora) from the end of Highfield Dr to help prevent it’s spread further into the woods. And, of course, got some ivy while we were there!

Ivy Pull – May 7, 2023

Meet at the north end of Grosvenor St on Capitol Hill by 10am this time on Sunday, May 7th..

Bring clippers, gloves and dress for the weather.

If you are able to make the May 7th date email us at capitolhilltreekeepers@gmail.com so we have some idea as to how many people we will have attend.  We hope to wrap it up before noon so that we don’t take all of your Sunday.

Ivy Pull – April 2, 2023

April 2, 2023 we are lucky to have Metro Vacouver’s invasive species specialist Tasha Murray, coming out to join us in pulling some ivy and to show us the best way to manage this invasive species in the forest.

This event starts at 1030a and will go for about 1.5 -2 hrs.  We ask that you bring your clippers and any larger clippers if you have them to start to tackle this problem that is preventing other natural species from thriving and is killing our larger trees.

Nature Walk – February 12, 2023

On Feb 12, 2023 we are planning a Walk About in the forest of Capitol Hill. This walkabout is to introduce you to what some of our plans are for the forest, to advise people who are not aware of the invasive species in our forest as well as to take any questions that you might have.   We are open to ideas as to what events you might be interested in the upcoming year.

This event will take place starting at the top of the hill by the bowl at Harbourview Park (Grosvener Crescent)  at 1000am and will run for approximately one hour.
